Regional Court Releases Journalist on bail

The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ)
welcomes the release of the print journalist in the town of
Bur'o on Sunday September 11, 2011 by the regional court of
Togdheer region in Somaliland.
Ahmed Mohamed Mose known as Sagaro, who was a
correspondent for Waaheen newspaper in Bur'o, was arrested
by the Somaliland police on 5 September 2011 at the town
of Bur'o on the orders of the governor of Togdheer region, Yaasin
Mohamed Abdi without court orders. Mose spent six days in jail.
The release of the journalist was commissioned
by the Somaliland's Minister of Interior, Mohamed Nor Arale
and the Attorney General, Somaliland Journalist Association
(SOLJA), Human rights defenders and Somaliland Lawyers Association,
according to Waaheen Newspaper.
"We welcome the release of the journalist
as a positive step taken forward and call the Somaliland Authorities
to stop the continued intimidation and harassment against the
journalists." Burhaan Daahir, Supreme Council President
of the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) said, "We
will not tolerate the serious violations against the press taking
press in Somaliland." Mr. Dahir added.
