NUSOJ Welcomes AMISOM's acknowledgement
in the involvement of the death of the Malaysian Journalist

The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) welcomes
AMISOM acknowledgement in the involvement of the shooting
to death the Malaysian journalists Noramfaizul
Mohd Nor from Bernama TV on September 2, 2011 in Mogadishu's
KM4 area, while slightly hurt another Malaysian Cameraman
Aji Saregar Mazlan from TV3.
The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the Commission
of the African Union (SRCC) and Head of Mission, Ambassador
Boubacar Diarra immediately ordered an investigation into
the incident in line with appropriate African Union procedures,
said AMISOM statement.
The Board of Inquiry (BOI) established that four soldiers
were involved in the shooting at the Hajji Doole Junction
on Airport Road and recommended that the four soldiers, from
the Burundi contingent, be brought to trial according to their
country's military and judicial processes. Also, in line with
the BOI recommendations, the four soldiers have been suspended
from duty to allow for further proceedings, according to AMISOM
statement.
Meanwhile, Farah
Hassan Sahal, Logistics Manager and driver of SIMBA radio
was killed by sniper fires allegedly from the African Union
Peacekeepers in Somalia at the radio compound in Mogadishu's
Bakara market on August 4, 2011.
"While we welcome the statement from AMISOM, We call
upon the African Union Peacekeepers probe into the killing
of the journalist killed on August 4, 2011 in Mogadishu's
Bakara market." said Mohammed Ibrahim, NUSOJ Secretary
General.
